Generally speaking, the basic elements to ensure the easy transmission and reliable connection of FPC connectors mainly involve three parts: substrate, adhesive, and metal foil. The specific contents are as follows:
One base material
The substrate is the basic material, which provides the foundation for the laminated board. It is a flexible polymer film that provides the main physical and electrical properties of flexible circuits. Although the thickness of the base material typically ranges from 1/2 mil to 5 mil, thicker or thinner materials can also be used. Generally speaking, thinner materials are softer, while thicker materials are harder. Some materials used as base films include polyester, polyimide, polyethylene naphthalate, polyetherimide, fluoropolymers, and copolymers.

II adhesive
The element of adhesive is the bonding medium, which is crucial in the manufacturing of laminated boards. Like the substrate, adhesives have different thicknesses. There are two types of conductive adhesives, namely isotropic and anisotropic. Isotropic conductive adhesive (ICA) is conductive in all directions and used for chip contact. On the other hand, anisotropic conductive adhesives (ACA) contain special particles that conduct electricity only in one direction.

III metallic foil
Metal foil is a conductive component of flexible laminated board FPC and a material for etching circuit paths. Due to its cost-effectiveness, copper is more commonly used than other metals. And copper has two different types: electrodeposition and forging, each with four different subtypes. To improve its bonding quality, a thin layer treatment should be applied on one side of the foil. Although copper is the most widely used metal in FPC connectors, other metals such as copper alloys or aluminum can also be used.
